April is National Pet Care Month!

A primary goal of National Pet Care Month is to inform the public about the many physical and emotional benefits of pet ownership. For example, having one or more pets in the house encourages increased physical activity and socialization and can reduce blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These effects help lower the risk of heart disease and other health concerns. Plus, the companionship pets provide eases loneliness, stress, depression, and other emotional problems.

National Pet Care Month is used to celebrate the contributions pets make to our lives!

National Pet Care Month is an ideal time to learn about and educate others on responsible pet ownership, including proper hygiene and health care, spaying and neutering, nutrition, methods of providing adequate stimulation and attention, and so much more. It is also a time for increasing awareness about the important services provided by pet care specialists, such as options for professional medical and dental care, grooming, boarding, and other services that help keep our animal friends happy and healthy.

Other aspects of pet ownership and care are addressed during National Pet Care Month, as well. Recognition is offered for the contributions working animals make to our daily lives, and pet adoption is strongly encouraged to help animals find happy homes.

If you'd like to help, there are numerous ways to support and celebrate National Pet Care Month. Adopt a pet and encourage a friend or family member to do the same. Purchase some new toys for your pets or set up a special new play area for them. Find extra time for play and attention. Pamper your animals with professional grooming or animal massage services. Reward and reinforce good behavior with a few extra treats. Make a donation of money or needed items to a local animal shelter, or make a monetary donation to a favorite animal welfare charity or two if you are able.
